The imposing Baronale Palamolla Castle towers over the medieval village of Torraca, situated a few kilometres from Sapri and Maratea. The ancient castle was built on a rocky outcrop around which the Torraca commune develops, typical of medieval town planning. The castle was formerly occupied by a variety of dynasties, such as Gambacorta, Palamolla and Brandi, but is today property of the municipality and home to the local university and congress centre.
